If you wait to long, you risk your water heater’s storage tank failing. You could be facing some big bills for cleanup and to repair damage in your home if that happens, and that’s on top of the cost of replacing it. You’ll also have to rush to replace the water heater, meaning you won’t have the time to be sure you get the right one for your home.

Johnny Prescott is here to help. Our equipment professionals will help you make the best choice in water heaters for your home and your budget, and our team of expert service technicians will install it to the highest standards of safety and quality.

Here are five signs that now is the time to upgrade to a new, efficient water heater.

Your water heater is 10 years old or older

A storage-type water heater has an average lifespan of 10 to 12 years. It’s time to begin planning to replace your water heater if it’s more than 10 years old. If you’re unsure how old your water heater is, you can use the serial number on the manufacturer’s sticker to find out. The first letter in it corresponds to its month of production. The first two numbers are the year it was made. That means if the serial number on your water heater is E112738598, “E” is the fifth letter in the alphabet and corresponds to May, the fifth month of the year. The “11” stands for the year. That indicates that the water heater was manufactured in May of 2011.

Rusty water

If you use hot water and your faucet produces rusty water, it’s likely coming from the water heater tank. Rusty hot water may indicate sediment buildup inside the tank. That could mean you soon could be dealing with a leak or a tank failure. Contact us right away. We’ll inspect your water and get started on replacement.

Weird noises

When the water in your water heater tank is being heated and you hear noises such as banging or rumbling, that is a sign that there is likely a buildup and solidification of sediment in the bottom of your tank. Often, this means that your water heater is beyond repair and needs to be replaced before it fails.

Wet floor around the water heater

Even small leaks can develop a little puddle or damp floor around your water heater over time, despite the fact that the leaks aren’t always easy to see. Even tiny leaks might lead to a small puddle or moist floor surrounding your water heater over time. Get in touch with us right away to have it checked out.

Soaring energy costs

Approximately 20% of the energy consumed in a home is used for water heating. It’s possible that any increase in your energy bills is due to an inefficient, poorly functioning water heater. A new, high-efficiency tankless water heater can cut your water heating energy costs by 40%!
