What’s Normal?

propane estimate new hampshire

If you look back over your propane bills from the last year, you might notice that monthly usage is different. It could be that you use the fuel differently from month to month, like when you use propane for home heating.

If you heat your water and cook with propane in the summer, it’s possible that your gas consumption will increase more than expected.

This could be a problem if you use Will-Call for your propane delivery, as you may find yourself running low on, or worse, running out of propane. You can avoid that by enrolling in Automatic Delivery!

We use your usage history and current weather conditions to accurately predict when you will need more propane, and fill your tank before you run low.

How To Calculate Propane Usage

You’re probably not running all your propane appliances 100% of the time, so we’ve created the example below to estimate how much you’ll use by using them at 25% and 50% capacity for 2 to 6 hours per day.

The estimated amount of propane usage use per day can vary greatly, from 1.2 to 7.2 gallons of gas a day. Changes in circumstances like children being home from college over the summer can have an impact, between water heating for bathing and laundry among other things. Here’s an example:

For a gas water heater, clothes dryer, and range run at 25% capacity for 2 hours a day:

220,000 BTU/hours (the total for all the appliances) ÷ 91,547 BTU/gallon of propane = 2.4 gallons per hour

2.4 gallons x .25 (25% capacity) = .6 gallons per hour

.6 gallons x 2 hours = 1.2 gallons

This number can then be used to calculate greater use of propane appliances:

25% capacity for 6 hours = 3.6 gallons per day

50% capacity for 2 hours = 2.4 gallons per day

50% capacity for 6 hours 7.2 gallons per day

If you have a propane pool heater (at 425,000 BTU/hour) that operates for one hour a day at 75% capacity, which adds about 3.5 gallons to your daily usage:

425,000 BTU/hour ÷ 91,547 = 4.64 gallons/hour

4.65 x .75 = 3.48 gallons

Pool heaters use a lot of propane and you can reduce your usage by using a swimming pool cover when the pool is not being used. This will retain much of the pool’s heat, so that the heater doesn’t have to run as frequently.

Using a propane generator for power means calculations can be difficult, since you may or may not use it during an outage, and for any given period of time. Keep track of when your whole house generator is in use so that you know if this will affect your bills and how to plan accordingly.

fuel tank options new hampshireWhen it comes to a propane tank for your New Hampshire home, it’s a very individual thing.

It is important to get the propane tank size that’s best suited for your needs. With decades of experience in this field and a wealth of knowledge, Johnny Prescott can give you what you need so you will be satisfied with your choice.

You and your neighbor may have similar-sized homes but need different sizes of propane tanks because of how you use propane. This primer on propane tanks sizes will help you understand how they meet the needs for your home.

Propane Tank Sizes and Their Uses

120-gallon to 150-gallon tanks. If you use propane to cook, heat water, dry clothes, or for a fireplace you’ll need one of these tanks. However, they are too small for whole-house heating.

250-gallon tanks. If you use three or more propane appliances, you’re going to need a tank at least this size. Again, these are too small to heat your whole house with a furnace or boiler.

500-gallon tanks. Heating your home with propane is environmentally friendly, energy efficient, and cost-effective. These particular size tanks are often used in whole-house heating systems. For instance, a 500-gallon tank is usually suited to suit an entire home’s heating needs, as well as for cooking, water heating, and more.

1,000-gallon tanks. These are often used for commercial purposes. They provide a source of fuel for all sorts of operations from heating to fueling commercial kitchens. If you own a very large home and use propane for heating, cooking, water heating, and other high-BTU appliances like a pool or spa heater, you may need this size tank.
